Whois Lookup
A whois lookup gives a web user the ability to run a search on a specific domain name. The results of such a search will inform the web user whether or not the domain name is available, and if it is not, it will give the details of the ownership. Ownership details may include the expiration date of the domain, the domain registrar and even the contact details for the owner him/herself. These details can be very helpful to the web user since he or she will be able to contact the owner and possibly discuss the future plans for a taken domain name.

If your preferred domain name is available, your best bet is to register it right away to avoid it being snapped up by somebody else. If you are still unsure about your domain name, it is a good idea to take your time and think about it.
