URL Forwarding
URL forwarding occurs when one domain name automatically takes a web user to a different URL. In cases like this, there may or may not be content at the initially accessed domain name. The owner of such a forwarded domain name might decide to go through with URL forwarding for various reasons.
Why forward a domain name?
1) To control all instances of a name. If your business name is CompanyA and you purchased the CompanyA.com.au domain, you might want to consider purchasing CompanyA.net.au as well. Since you will probably want to only prepare one website appearing on CompanyA.com.au, you might decide to forward any instances of CompanyA.net.au being accessed automatically to the official website on CompanyA.com.au.
2) To control for any common domain name misspellings. If your domain name contains words or phrases commonly misspelled, chances are people will be misspelling it when typing it into their web browser. By purchasing another domain name and forwarding it to the correct address, you are helping to guide web visitors in the proper direction.
3) To maintain balance when transferring websites. Perhaps you are moving a website to a new domain name and want to automatically bring visitors to the new web address. URL forwarding is perfect for such occasions.
