Subdomains
A subdomain is yet another division of your main domain name. If your website's domain is www.domainname.com.au, then the subdomain could be something like blog.domainname.com.au. This would be another division of your main domain, yet act as an entirely new website altogether. In this case, having a subdomain can be a great thing. If your blog is now located at blog.domainname.com, then it will be its own website, meaning it can get its own Page Rank levels and contain its own keywords. Also, linking back to your main domain name from a subdomain will look like a one-way link and impact your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
In addition, the subdomains can be used to acknowledge and emphasise features and components of a main website. For example, you can emphasise the blog by placing it on a subdomain, or you could create a subdomain solely for a photo album, thus showing just how important such elements are while also keeping your main domain at a much neater and organised level.
